Welcome to the Chair of Sustainability Assessment of Food & Agricultural Systems (SAFAS)!
Our chair investigates the impacts of global supply chains on the environment, such as climate change and biodiversity. Our work mainly focuses food and agricultural products.
We work across global and national scales and develop robust methodologies that integrate multi-regional input-output analysis, life cycle assessment, earth observation data, and integrated assessment models. By combining these approaches, we build detailed models of global supply chains and their environmental impacts, enabling the analysis of different future scenarios.
This provides novel insights into critical (environmental) hotspots and key leverage points within global supply chains, scrutinizes changes in production and consumption behaviors, and and explore more sustainable ways of producing and consuming resources.
Our research supports decision-making in policy, industry, and society. It helps stakeholders navigate within planetary boundaries and contribute to a more sustainable future.
