PuR Chair and HEF organise the Weihenstephan Forum on the future of agricultural policy for the second time (31/01)

Following the successful kick-off event of the Weihenstephan Forum on the future of agricultural policy in summer 2023, the follow-up event took place last Wednesday (31 January 2024) under the motto "Climate protectors versus agriculture - just a misunderstanding?". Around 170 people attended the symposium, which was organised by the Chair of Production and Resource Economics (PuR) and the Hans Eisenmann Forum for Agricultural Sciences (HEF). Facilitated by Heike Zeller, a panel discussion convened, featuring experts in agricultural policy and climate protection:

  • Günther Felßner, President, Bavarian Farmers' Association
  • Martin Hofstetter, agricultural policy expert, Greenpeace Germany
  • Ulrike Müller, Member of the Bavarian Parliament, Freie Wähler
  • Johannes Sauer, Professor, Technical University of Munich
  • Alexander Wolf, climate activist, Letzte Generation

The aim of the event series is to provide a platform for discourse and to facilitate access to scientific findings in the agricultural sector.
The symposium was therefore divided into the various thematic blocks "Effects of climate change on agricultural production" and "Opportunities and limits of reducing greenhouse gases" and the event initiator, Professor Johannes Sauer, gave an overview of the current state of research at the beginning of each topic area. The audience was also actively involved in the event. Following the discussions, the evening extended into informal conversations over beer and pretzels
