We are proud to share that Prof. Dr. Johannes Sauer and his team at the Chair of Agricultural Production and Resource Economics at TUM, have been actively involved as expert contributors to the development of the new FAO LEAP guidelines on “Ecosystem Services Assessment in Livestock Agroecosystems.”
These guidelines are the result of an international panel of experts convened by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through its Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance (LEAP) Partnership. Prof. Sauer’s role ensured that the guidelines integrate rigorous economic and sustainability perspectives, linking ecosystem services to both socio-economic and environmental outcomes. His contribution helps provide policymakers and practitioners with robust, evidence-based tools to better evaluate the role of livestock systems in delivering ecosystem services.
The guidelines will be officially launched on 29 September 2025 during the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation at FAO Headquarters in Rome. This event will mark a significant milestone for the global community: the guidelines will form the foundation for future capacity building, dissemination, and implementation among FAO Member Nations, supporting the sustainable transformation of livestock systems worldwide.
Prof. Sauer’s participation reflects the international recognition of the Chair’s expertise in agricultural production economics and sustainability science. We are honored to see this expertise shaping a global framework that will guide more sustainable, resilient, and circular agricultural systems in the years ahead.
