From May 20–23, 2025, the Chair of Agricultural Production and Resource Economics (PuR) of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) completed its first outreach mission to Cambodia, led by Prof. Dr. Johannes Sauer and Junior Researcher Pietro Sala.
The visit aimed to establish new academic and institutional connections in support of sustainable agriculture, agricultural policy, and rural development research.
📍 In Phnom Penh, the PuR team engaged with a range of key stakeholders:
• Royal University of Agriculture (RUA)
• International University (IU)
• Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC)
• GIZ Cambodia – with a focus on the EU-DE CAMBODIA CAPSAFE project, which supports climate-adaptive and sustainable food systems
• IRRI Cambodia Office
• Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF)
💬 These discussions opened promising pathways for collaboration in research, teaching, and capacity building—especially in areas of shared interest such as climate resilience, water and resource management, and production efficiency.
🚜 Field Experience – Takeo Province
part of the mission plan was also a field visit to Takeo Province, organized in collaboration with local partners.
🎯 Next Steps
The mission laid a strong foundation for future research cooperation in:
✅ Climate-resilient agriculture and policy
✅ Water and resource economics
✅ Digital innovation in agri-food systems
✅ Academic exchange and collaborative project development
We look forward to shaping meaningful, science-based partnerships in Cambodia—and continuing to foster evidence-driven, globally engaged research at the PuR Chair of TUM.
