Our research lies at the intersection of environmental and behavioral economics. We study the motives underlying economic behavior and test their policy implications in real-world settings.
We primarily use large-scale randomized controlled trials to examine the potential, limitations, and complementarities of policy interventions to improve sustainable water and waste management. These studies are conducted in low and middle-income countries, where vulnerability to environmental crises and limited coping capacity make the impacts of climate change particularly severe.
In complementary research, we employ laboratory, lab in the field, survey, and online experiments, as well as quasi-experimental methods to deepen our understanding of human behavior in relation to the environment.
