SCALARE aims to advance resilient agroforestry systems across the Mediterranean by co-developing an innovation ecosystem that supports sustainable land management. Using a Living Lab approach, demonstration sites in Egypt, Italy, Spain, and Tunisia bring together researchers, farmers, and stakeholders to jointly assess innovative agroforestry practices that enhance climate resilience, improve soil productivity and water retention, and contribute to carbon sequestration and diversified food production.
The Chair of Agricultural Production and Resource Economics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) plays a key role in SCALARE by leading the overall coordination of the project and contributing to the development of business models that support agroforestry adoption and scalability. The project also addresses barriers to adoption and explores financing opportunities, including ecosystem services and carbon markets.
The new website will provide regular updates on project activities, Living Lab developments, and research outputs, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders across the Mediterranean region and beyond.
