The lecture kicked off a two-week program run by UNPAD's Faculty of Agriculture under the theme "One Health, One Future: Transforming Agrifood Systems in the Global South," with this year's focus on "Building Climate-Resilient Agrifood Systems Through Local Wisdom."

Framed around the classic triple-bottom-line lens, the lecture traced how food systems sit at the intersection of food security and nutrition (people), environmental limits and planetary boundaries (planet), and the economics and livelihoods that sustain agriculture (profit) — and how climate change is reshaping all three simultaneously. Particular attention was given to Southeast Asia's own stakes in this transition: the region's rice-growing deltas, its position in global palm oil markets, and the local knowledge systems that are increasingly recognised as part of the climate-resilience toolkit.

The session brought together an international cohort of students from across the Global South, continuing the Chair's ongoing collaboration with UNPAD's Faculty of Agriculture. We look forward to following the rest of the course, which runs through 30 August 2026 with contributions from Wageningen University, Ghent University, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, and community and industry speakers from across Indonesia.
