Academic career

Thomas Schaper is a postdoctoral researcher at TUM School of Management. His research interests are in the economics of innovation, science and technology. In on-going projects, he investigates human capital externalities in scientific production, competitive science funding, and the impact of institutions on knowledge spillovers.

He received his Ph.D. in applied economics from KU Leuven (Belgium) in 2021. He was holder of a Ph.D. fellowship of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) from 2017-2021. He is an affiliated researcher with the Department of Management, Strategy and Innovation (MSI) at KU Leuven.  

Thomas is part of the German Research Foundation (DFG) research group on multiple competition in higher education [FOR 5234], in the project group on evaluation of competitive research funding and its impact on knowledge production in research groups, funded by DFG grant # 447967785.
